Aleister Crowley

Profile

Birthdate: October 12, 1875 - December 1, 1947

Aleister Crowley, born Edward Alexander Crowley, may not be to eveyone’s taste. In Victorian England he was considered bizarre by the press. He was an occultist, a poet, a novelist, and a magician who belonged to two occult organizations, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the Ordo Templi Orientis, and later founded his own. He was also a bi-sexual and a drug addict.

He is best known for his book, The Book of Law, which was dictated to him on three consecutive days in Egypt by a disembodied voice belonging to a being called Aiwass.

Aleister Crowley's Illustrated Goetia: Sexual Evocation - Aleister Crowley 2010

Amazon Synopsis: In 1904, Aleister Crowley commissioned, edited, and introduced an English translation of The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King, the first of five magical texts known as the Lemegeton. Yet few have actually worked the system, believing one must conform blindly to the archaic procedures and long-winded conjurations of the original text. But Crowley s attitude toward the Goetia appears to have been different. His masterful expansion and perfection of the Preliminary Invocation of the Goetia is a prime example.

This new edition of the Goetia features an introduction explaining Goetic Magick. Goetia refers to all the operations of that Magick which deals with gross, malignant or unenlightened forces. Goetia is sometimes thought of as a wild card, something that can get out of control, something which expresses the operator's lower desires to control others and improve his own personal life. And, in fact, this potential loss of control, this danger, the desire for self-improvement and great power is exactly what attracts many people to the Goetia while horrifying and repelling others. Crowley's Goetia is brought to life by David P. Wilson with vivid illustrations of the Goetic demons, while Lon Milo DuQuette and Christopher S. Hyatt bring the ancient art of Goetic Magick to life in the modern day. Christopher Hyatt joined with Lon Milo DuQuette and David P. Wilson to glean extraordinary magical and philosophical treasures from this most misunderstood subject.

Book Four, Magick: Liber Aba - Aleister Crowley 1998

Amazon Synopsis: Aleister Crowley devoted twenty-five years to writing and producing the four parts of this book. It is his magnum opus, in which he systematically expounds the mystical and magical theories and techniques taught in his magical orders, the AA and the O.T.O. This profusely illustrated new edition brings together the complete texts of all four parts of Liber ABA (Book 4) in one volume under the overall title Magick.

This edition incorporates Crowley`s own additions, corrections, and annotations, and restores dozens of passages omitted from the first editions. Magick is the fundamental textbook of modern magick in the New on. It also has invaluable teachings for students of Yoga and meditation. Crowley mastered the practices of Yoga during his studies in the East, and writes about them lucidly, without recourse to the imprecise language of mysticism. Beginning with a discussion of the universal origin of world religions in mystical revelation, Magick then explores the theory and practice of mysticism and magick in the light of modern scientific thought. Crowley`s own revelation, The Book of the Law, is then treated as a case study, with an autobiographical study of events leading to its reception.

Extensively cross-referenced and annotated, this edition features over 100 diagrams and photographs, as well as a glossary, bibliography, and detailed index. This second revised one-volume edition features revisions based on new typescripts for a more accurate text than all earlier editions, and it includes a revised AA curriculum, a new syllabus of the O.T.O. papers, and an important, previously-unpublished AA paper. This is an 844 page hardcover book.

The Book of Law - Aleister Crowley 2011

Amazon Synopsis: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law." This oft-misunderstood phrase, which forms the basis for Crowley's practice of Magick, is found in The Book of the Law. Dictated to Crowley in Cairo between noon and 1:00p.m. on three successive days in April 1904, The Book of the Law is the source book and key for Crowley students and for the occult in general.

The holy text that forms the basis of Crowley's belief system, Thelema, was transmitted to him by the entity known as Aiwass over the course of three fateful April days in 1904. With his wife Rose as the medium for what would become known as the Cairo Working, Crowley dutifully transcribed the communications on hotel stationery. This work contains the corrected text of the 1938 edition with a facsimile of the handwritten manuscript.

Enochian World of Aleister Crowley: Enochian Sex Magick - Aleister Crowley 2011

Amazon Synopsis: This is the 20th Anniversary edition of the book which contains new material by Lon Milo DuQuette!

This book gives the student immediate access to the world's most powerful yet misunderstood system of Magick. Crowley's work on the Enochian system was originally published in The Equinox, his 10-voulme journal of Scientific Illuminism. It was the launching pad for all that followed. Originally published in 1912, it rent the veil of the Inner Order of the Golden Dawn and revealed its most precious jewel for all to see. Lon Milo DuQuette is a recognized expert on Enochian Magick who brings four decades of practical experience in the field to show you how to start using this powerful system right now.

It is the aim of this book to offer in a practical format, Liber LXXXIV vel Chanokh, Crowley's original presentation of basic Enochiana, and make it immediately useful for the student who wishes to make use of it now. This coupled with Israel Regardie's fine Enochian Dictionary and pronunciation guide provides the reader with the minimum material necessary to get started. For the advanced student it offers practical instructions and the opportunity to re-evaluate the original information that the greatest magician of the 20th Century felt was most necessary to master first.

The General Principles of Astrology - Aleister Crowley

Amazon Synopsis: This first full-scale reconstruction of his essential text has waited 85 years to appear as he originally intended it. Long before there was Linda Goodman, long before astrology bestsellers turned up in supermarkets, there was Aleister Crowley, the most important astrological scholar and authority of the early 20th century. Ghostwriting for Evangeline Adams, it was Crowley who wrote the vast majority of her classic textbooks, Astrology: Your Place in the Sun (1927) and Astrology: Your Place Among the Stars (1930). General Principles of Astrology finally acknowledges Crowley's authorship.

Crowley's goal was to abandon traditional assumptions, so he based his findings on actual charts and how they were expressed in people's lives. In his characteristically clear and elegant prose, Crowley discusses each planet from a scientific and mythological point of view. He provides an exhaustive analysis of astrological types, drawing conclusions for over 180 astrological nativities of well-known artists, poets, musicians, philosophers, politicians, and business leaders from the 18th to the 20th century.

This new book is composed of painstakingly gathered work, primarily ghostwritten by Crowley, and published in various early twentieth-century texts. It is published here in one volume for the first time, in an undertaking endorsed by both the Adams and Crowley estates.

The Law Is for All: The Authorized Popular Commentary of Liber Al Vel Legis Sub Figura Ccxx, the Book of the Law - Aleister Crowley 1996

Amazon Synopsis: Aleister Crowley's life and thought are inexorably linked with The Book of the Law (Liber AL vel Legis, sub figura CCXX). He was not the author of this short, prophetic text. He received this visionary work by direct-voice dictation from a preterhuman, possibly discarnate intelligence in Cairo in 1904.

Crowley was an intelligent sceptic, and at first found this improbable means of communication as difficult to accept as most intelligent readers will today. Yet he could not ignore it or its message, and eventually concluded that it stood as conclusive proof of the underlying assumption of all religion - that intelligences superior to mankind not only exist, but take an active role in our welfare. He found that The Book of the Law holds the keys to the Next Step in human evolution, and sets forth the spiritual principles of a New Aeon.

He worked for decades to interpret its meaning for initiates and the general public, but rejected commentary after commentary as inadequate. He eventually concluded that he was too close to his subject to judge the value of his own commentaries, and entrusted the task to his best friend, Louis Wilkinson. Wilkinson (who wrote under the pen-name Louis Marlow) possessed impressive literary qualifications and had the advantages of knowing Crowley well and being a layman in esoteric matters. The result of his work is this long-awaited authorized popular edition of Crowley's new commentary on The Book of the Law, and its first appearance as Crowley wished it. Louis Wilkinson's editorial work was posthumously completed and augmented by Frater Superior Hymenaeus Beta of the O.T.O. This new edition features annotations, reading lists and indexes, as well as an insightful introduction by Louis Wilkinson.
