Richard Henry Drummond

Profile

The facts I have been able to determine about Richard Henry Drummond do not include anything about his birth date or age. I suspect he has passed on, but until I can determine that, I will write as if he is still on this earth.

Richard Henry Drummond is an ordained Presbyterian minister and former professor of religion at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.

He spent many years as a missionary in Japan with the Presbyterian Church and is a student of religions.

He earned a BA and MA from the University of California, a BD from Gettysburg Theological Seminary, and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin.

We know that he was a student of the Edgar Cayce readings, at least those concerning the life of Jesus as he wrote two books on the subject.

Books

A Broader Vision: Perspectives on the Buddha and the Christ - Richard Henry Drummond & Kenneth M. Skidmore 1995

I found a review of this book by a Japanese reader who appreciated that this book was written by a Christian theologian who has witnessed and studied Buddhism in Japan for many years as a missionary. The reader found Drummond’s understood both religions to a high degree and was able to do a beneficial comparative study.

A Life of Jesus the Christ: From Cosmic Origins to the Second Coming (Edgar Cayce Guide) - Richard Henry Drummond 1996

Amazon Synopsis: Written by a biblical historian, this rich account of the life of Jesus Christ blends the Cayce readings and the Bible to tell of the birth, upbringing, education, spiritual preparation, ministry, resurrection and ascension of Jesus.

Islam for the Western Mind: understanding Muhammad and the Koran - Richard Henry Drummond 2005

Amazon Synopsis: More than a billion people consider themselves Muslim. It is the world’s second-largest religion. Yet Western portrayals of the Islamic mind are often flawed. Islam for the Western Mind is an intensive look--from a Christian perspective--at what inspires and motivates Muslims, namely Muhammad and the teaching of the Koran.

Dr. Drummond, an ordained Presbyterian minister and former professor, presents a balanced look at the life and teaching of Islam's founding Prophet, paying detailed attention to the religious and political community that existed during Muhammad's time as well as after his death.

Dr. Drummond also looks at the larger cultural impact of Islam, examining what he calls the lightning-like spread of the new religion across much of the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Europe, and examines Muhammad’s teaching about women, pagans, and Jesus, the Messiah, Son of Mary. He gives detailed attention to the ethical teaching of the Koran. All this is with primary emphasis upon God as Lord of the Worlds, yet merciful and compassionate, and upon prophecy as divine revelation.

Islam for the Western Mind is an essential text for anyone wanting an unbiased look at Muhammad, the Koran, and the religion they inspired.
